Meet Karen Crouch


Karen Crouch

Karen Crouch is a native born Texan who grew up in the Houston area. Having attended Baylor University, Karen graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Soon after graduating from Baylor, Karen entered St. Mary’s University School of Law where in 1985 she earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence. Licensed to practice law in 1986 by the Texas Supreme Court, Karen was sworn in by Judge Hugo Touchy in her family home in Houston, Texas.

Karen is the daughter of the late William Ekas Crouch and Marian Coffman Crouch and sister to William Peyton Crouch. Following in her father’s footsteps, Karen entered the private practice of law where she tried civil, criminal and family law cases at all levels of courts. She successfully fulfilled her role in that capacity until she was elected to serve as Judge of County Court at Law #8 when she was sworn in by Judge Johnny Gabriel on January 1, 1995. She continued to serve the citizens of Bexar County as Judge of County Court at Law #8 for 16 years. During her tenure on the bench, Karen was consistently recognized for her effectiveness in returning the largest amount of money to Bexar County taxpayers in addition to bringing her unique ability to think outside of the box. Karen was also the Managing Judge of the Courts in school programs during her term on the bench.

Karen's Family

While campaigning for election in 1994, Senator Leticia Van de Putte introduced Karen to her future husband, Gerald M. Flores. Karen and Gerald were married in October of 1999 and are the proud parents of three children. Both Karen and Gerald are actively involved in the community, particularly in the school system. Gerald is Central Catholic alum having graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio. A professional Educator, Principal and Administrator for more than 30 years in the San Antonio Independent School District, he earned his Master’s degree at Texas A&I Kingsville. Gerald is now happily retired.
